Rumors

No, not the Fleetwood Mac album from the 70’s.  That was “Rumours” with a U.  I’m talking stuff we don’t have truly confirmed, but that seem to be pretty reliable.  There are two pieces of information that can be found on Kris Bell’s Sonicbids page that I find rather curious, mostly because they seem like pretty important pieces of information.

First, if you read carefully, you’ll find in Kris’ bio that, hmmm, his CD is now due out in the Fall.  While I’m not gonna hold my breath (sorry, Kris, but history speaks for itself LOL!), I will continue to look forward to this long-awaited CD.  In addition, it will be “released on the independent label, Big Head Rebel Records.”  All I can say is:  Bring on the Fall!

Second, if you scroll down a bit on the bio page, Kris lists his band members.  There’s Kris, of course, and familiar names Coop and Shane, but then, what’s this?  “Craig Smoot-Guitar”?  Who the heck is that?  Well, a little Googling gave up his MySpace page and a bit of information.  Seems he’s a Huntsville native (or at least he went to high school and college there), and, depending on how recently he’s updated his MySpace, he’s currently playing with 3 bands (not including Kris’ band).  Looks like he likes to keep busy.

So, now I have a few questions.

  1. October 3 is technically in the Fall.  Will I be able to purchase a Kris Bell CD at his Redding, CA, show?
  2. Will New Guy actually be adding a 4th band to his list of current gigs?
  3. Will New Guy be joining Kris in Redding on October 3?
  4. What is the meaning of life?

I figure we’ll get a few answers in the next month.  That last one?  Well, I figure that’s up to each of us to figure out on our own.

For the terminally curious, like me, here’s a pic of New Guy Craig Smoot, taken in 2007, playing with Black Label.

Hmmmm…  Smootylicious :)
(No, I didn’t make that up.  That’s his MySpace addy:

  3. Hmmmm… is right! All very interesting… and exciting to ponder. Hey Laura… if that cd is available on the gig at the 3rd… I know two birthday girls (one on the 1st :) and one on the 2nd) that should get a copy for their birthdays, don’tcha think LOL! The birthday girl on the 16th, of course, needs one too LOL!!!
    Lisa :)

  4. Definitely very interesting stuff! I can’t wait to find out those answers!!!

PS..I guess I also know some birthday presents to get. LOL! :)

  5. As much as I would love to keep everyone in suspense thus creating a buzz about the Redding show, I felt I needed to address this ASAP for reasons I will divulge at the end of this posting.

Yes, I am the “New Guy”–an old band bud of Coop, Sean & Shane’s (and Bo, naturally) from back in the days when PURGE and my band played shows together around the Huntsville scene circa ‘95-’97. In fact, we opened for their CD release party and vice versa, as Bo & Co. had all made guest appearances on our album.

Anyhoo and without further ado, to address the needs of the “terminally curious”:
    1) Yes, although I’m a native Texan by birth [San Antonio], I’ve lived in Huntsville for most of my life.
    2) The Myspace moniker is a nickname given to me by an old drummer friend of ours that just kinda “stuck” for some strange reason.
    3) Yes, I still perform regularly in 3 different local bands–from High Octane Rock/Metal all the way to 80’s Pop cheese & Hair Band stuff.
    4) Yes, I will be performing with the K.B.B. at the upcoming show in Redding; however, it is too soon to tell whether or not I will be asked to be an official K.B.B. member since I haven’t even rehearsed with the guys yet.

I’m eagerly looking forward to jamming with Kris & the guys soon, and I will let you all know how it goes. Kris is a great singer/songwriter/guitarist (which I don’t have to tell you guys, obviously), and I’ve always known that Coop and Shane can hang with the best of ‘em, so I think it’s gonna be sooper-sweet when we commence to jamming proper.

In the meantime, I’d like to ask a small favor in that you all *please* keep this on the down-low, as I am having to deal with a scheduling conflict with one of my bands in order to make the Redding show happen (and they’re not too happy about it). But I committed to the K.B.B. gig before my band’s show was booked in stone, and so I will not let Kris & the boys down.

Oh, and thanks for the friend requests on Myspace that I’ve already received, and my apologies in advance for refraining from posting any [public] comments that might peeve my jilted bandmates–thanks for understanding. Looking forward to meeting some of you at the NoCal show!

    Sincerely,
    the “New Guy”
